The Maggi's van was released in 1984 and it was painted yellow with a red roof.

Variations/Rarities: Problems were encountered when mask-spraying the van roof in red. Alterations were made to the tools which resulted in a one millimetre wide guideline ridge along the front edge of the roof.
Two tampo printing plates had been made and although basically similar, there were noticeable differences to several letters in the words 'Suppen' and 'Spiesen'. On the last runs a darker ink was used.
It can have a "Lesney © 1981 Y21 England" or a "Matchbox © 1981 Y21 England" baseplate inscription.

The early body without the wider leading edge to the van roof is quite hard to find.

Interesting Facts: The Maggis Company took 14,000 models for their own promotion. Unbeknown to Lesney several thousand, believed to be six thousand, had the Maggis logo applied to the rear doors and were packed into a non Yesteryear box and are therefore classed as Code 3 models.
